The characteristics of wave motion are :
1.The wave is the the disturbance or energy which propagates through any medium due to repeated periodic motion of the particle about their mean positions.
2. The wave or energy has actual motion while the particle of the medium do not have actual motion.
3. As soon as wave reaches a particle it starts vibrating and little later the energy is transferred to the neighbouring particle and so on.
4.The velocity of particle depends upon time while the velocity of wave is independent of time & it depends upon the nature of the medium in which wave travels.
NOTE :
> For the propagation of wave through the a medium, it must posses
(1) The property of inertia ( to store K.E.)
(2) The property of elasticity ( to store P.E. )
